Cervical cancer screening is usually part of a female health screening. There are two types of tests: the Pap test and the HPV test. In both cases, the doctor or nurse removes the cells from the surface of the cervix. In the Pap test, the laboratory looks for a sample of cancer cells or abnormal cells that later become cancer. HPV testing detects whether you are infected with the human papillomavirus or not, as this virus is caused by cervical cancer. If any of the tests are abnormal you need to go for colposcopy and biopsy to diagnose any precancerous lesion.
